Book Cover Yaffa and Fatima

This month we have chosen to feature a lovely rewritten folk tale about friendship and connection between a Jewish and a Muslim woman who live near each other. The story line is about the two women caring for their date trees, harvesting the dates, bringing them to market – and then sharing conversation and tea in one home or the other. Until one year – there is not enough rain – and not enough dates! Each woman worries about her friend and each comes up with a plan to secretly deliver some of their own few dates to the other. It’s a  delightful and loving story, filled with small details about each woman’s life including matter of fact information about each religion. For children – this is a story about kindness and how we can be both the same and different from our beloved friends. For adults – a much needed message of hope and a vision of the world we want our children to inherit.
